On World Recycling Day, we cannot overlook what matters most: being the proof to your promise

Today, we share information about the???Global Recycled Standard (GRS) and the Recycled Claim Standard (RCS)???, certifications aimed at increasing the use of recycled materials in products and reducing or eliminating the harm caused by their production.

GRS was originally developed by Control Union Certifications?in 2008, ownership was transferred to?Textile Exchange?on January 1, 2011.

It tracks and verifies the content of recycled materials in a final product.

The desired effect of this tool is to create more accurate labeling, promote innovation in the use of recovered materials, establish greater transparency in the supply chain, and provide better information to consumers.

RCS? focuses on verifying and certifying recycled content in textile, leather, paper, plastic, and metal products.

It establishes requirements for the certification of recycled inputs (pre-consumer or post-consumer) and ensures a robust chain of custody from source to the final product.

The distinctions between them are as follows:

The Global Recycled Standard is a more stringent standard, requiring a minimum of 20% recycled content and encompassing criteria concerning chain of custody, social and environmental practices, as well as restricted chemical content. To display the GRS logo, an item must contain at least 50% recycled material.

On the other hand, the Recycled Claim Standard only mandates 5% recycled content without the aforementioned specific requirements.
