World Radiography Day

World Radiography Day

We bet you didn’t know this little fact…! Today is World Radiography Day which is celebrated every year on the 8th November. It marks the anniversary of the discovery of x-radiation in 1895 by Wilhelm Roentgen.

It’s a fantastic chance to recognise and appreciate the work that radiographers do right across the world, and to marvel at such a pioneering leap in diagnostic healthcare. It’s also an opportunity to celebrate everything that’s great about a career in radiography, and to encourage people to embark on this fascinating career path.

What makes radiography the ideal career choice?

Radiography is at the heart of modern medicine. At certain points in our lives just about all of us will require the services of a radiographer at some time. It could be for any number of reasons, from investigating an issue with our blood or soft tissue to locating a fractured bone.

Medical testing has come on in leaps and bounds over recent decades and as a radiographer you’ll have the opportunity to be trained on the most cutting edge equipment. It puts you right in the centre of patient diagnosis, working closely with a broad range of healthcare teams.

As a radiologic technologist, you may be trained to do many important diagnostic tests like:

·      X-Rays: using radiation to look through the body to see bones and foreign objects

·      MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging): using magnetic imaging to build a 2D or 3D map of body tissues

·      Angiography: looking at the condition of certain blood vessels

·      CT (Computed Tomography): creating cross-sectional views of areas of the body

·      Fluoroscopy: making real-time images of the digestive system

Radiography is an extremely interesting area to work in, as you get to speak directly with patients and meet all sorts of people from all walks of life. Radiologic technologists also have the chance to be trained to do many different procedures using a wide spectrum of technical devices. Plus, no two days are ever the same so you’ll certainly be kept on your toes!

? Are you a radiographer and want to boost your CPD? Perhaps you feel there are some gaps in your knowledge and you’d like extra training to offer the best care possible.

If so, why not try our fantastic in-house course Red Dot training for radiographers? It’s the perfect opportunity for groups of radiographers to learn and network together at a location and time to suit.
