Almost 30 years after the original success of ’Nattevagten’ ?(‘Nightwatch’), Ole Bornedal reunites us with Martin, played by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (many will recognise him as Jaimie Lannister from ‘Games of Thrones’), his friend Jens (Kim Bodnia, of ‘Killing Eve’, ‘House of Dragons’) and Martin’s now grown up daughter Emma, played by Fanny Bornedal.
Ole Bornedal, writer, director of the film has managed to create a film that not only lives up to its predecessor but also manages to stand alone with its own identity. The film's 1 hour and 50 minutes glide by effortlessly, immersing viewers in a meticulously curated journey through the characters' emotions, synchronised with an evocative musical backdrop, all set against the backdrop of Copenhagen at night, where the ordinary takes on an eerie, haunting allure.
Ole's skilful construction of tension keeps you perched on the edge of your seat throughout. The dialogue flows naturally and keeps the audience engaged.
An overall well-made film with a great main and supporting cast. Fanny Bornedal’s impressive portrayal of the character Emma comes with a genuine authenticity that is incredibly convincing, which is reason enough to watch the film. We look forward to see more of her in the future.
During the post film Q&A, Fanny shared her preparation process and how she trusted her instincts while filming her scenes. She also spoke about the unique experience of working with her father, Ole, which proved both enjoyable and professional. Ole discussed his meticulous approach to scriptwriting, capturing everyday conversations that resonate with audiences today, thanks in part to his younger cast members, who provided valuable insights into modern language usage.
