The World of Overlap in the Name of Collaboration

Collaboration… the magical word that promises harmony but often delivers chaos. Just imagine, you are eagerly jumping into a team project, excited to share ideas and conquer tasks together. But, somewhere along the way, you have entered the Bermuda Triangle of productivity, where ideas vanish into thin air, and deadlines disappear without a trace. One minute, you are discussing strategies, the next, you are staring at five different spreadsheets wondering if you are still working on the same project.
In the name of collaboration, we love to pile on the meetings, add more people to the email thread, and cc half the company on every update because, you know, more heads are better, right? Wrong! Maybe we do not need to loop in Rahul from Finance to weigh in on a marketing strategy. The "I’ have got this" quickly transforms into "I thought they were doing it." It is a never-ending loop of passing the ball until the final whistle blows and everyone is staring at each other, shocked that nothing actually got done.
And let’s not forget the classic scenario where you realize that your “collaborative” project is, in fact, five different versions of the same thing. What is funny and somewhat tragic is that in the name of working together, we often end up tripping over each other. It is like five chefs trying to make one dish, but everyone insists on adding their own secret ingredient. By the end, the dish is a hot mess, and nobody can remember what the original recipe was.
But, of course, we do it all in the name of synergy! A soggy mess of overlap, where everyone is too busy “collaborating” to actually get any work done. The only thing that is moving forward is the timeline for the next meeting to fix what was broken in the last one.
So, here is a thought… maybe we do not need 12 people to send one email. Let us leave a little room for sanity and stop turning teamwork into an overlapping chaos. Collaboration is great, but like a well-balanced cocktail, it is all about the right mix. Too much overlap, and you are left with nothing but headaches. Let’s raise a toast to working together… but maybe, just maybe, let’s give each other a little room to breathe.
