Will there be a world for our kids?

Meat: A threat to our planet? This was a startling insight into the world of mass produced meat farming (last night 21:30 BBC1). Everyone is aware of how serious the situation is. However, do we really know just how bad this is becoming? My wife and I were left open mouthed and lost for words after watching this. The impact humans are having on the world is on a knifes edge and more than we fully realise. As a nation of 66 million people, we make up 0.88 percent of the worlds population, compared to the US at 4.27 percent, India 17.71 percent and China 18.59 percent! However hard we may strive as a nation to reduce our environmental impact on the world, how in heavens name are we going to change everyone else's behaviour? The programme doesn't even take into account the impact of transportation, residential and commercial dwellings, industry, energy supply and more.
It's a startling and very sobering reality and it feels that we are all sitting back and watching the world burn. What will our children inherit from us? We are making slow but positive steps in the UK to change our habits but lets face it 0.88 percent versus the rest of the world, seems like an insurmountable challenge.
