Bahrain, a small island nation nestled in the Arabian Gulf, is a vibrant crossroads of ancient history and modernity. Known as the "Pearl of the Gulf," Bahrain has a rich heritage that dates back over 5,000 years being one of the oldest trading hubs in the region.
The name Bahrain itself means "two seas" in Arabic, symbolizing the country's duality of fresh and saltwater and its historical reliance on the sea for trade, pearls, and sustenance.
Vision 2030
Bahrain Vision 2030 is the Kingdom’s long-term development strategy aimed at transforming its economy and society through principles of sustainability, competitiveness, and fairness.
Bahrain's Maritime Industry ??
Bahrain’s culture is deeply rooted in its maritime heritage with pearl diving once accounting for over 50% of its economy before oil was discovered in 1932. Today, Bahrain’s maritime sector thrives as a key player in trade, logistics, and tourism. The Khalifa Bin Salman Port, capable of handling 1.1 million TEUs annually, is a major GCC trade hub, connecting Bahrain to over 30 global markets. It supports 80% of Bahrain’s non-oil exports and has been instrumental in positioning the country as a regional logistics leader.
Bahrain has embraced sustainability in its maritime endeavors, focusing on marine biodiversity conservation, restoration of pearl beds, and the protection of coral reefs and mangroves. Initiatives such as these align with Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030, which emphasizes economic diversification and sustainable development, ensuring the maritime sector remains a key pillar of the nation's growth.
Bahrain Marina Development (Expected 2026) ??
$527 million mixed-use waterfront project led by Bahrain Marina Development Company. Featuring 182 berths, 3,200 sqm marine club, high-end restaurants, residential units, 5 star hotel and retail stores.
