Educators are busy people with limited resources. With that in mind, the Ocean Curriculum Catalog is now searchable by theme, organized by topic to include?biodiversity,?coral reefs,?marine species,?freshwater, and more.?Coming in 2023: the curricular resources will soon be searchable by grades K-12, making it even easier for teachers to find appropriate third-party ocean resources and lesson plans for their students.

The Curriculum Catalog is a continuous work in progress, and we endeavor to add new content as we find it. Do you know of ocean-related educational content that should be included? Are you an educator who has some go-to links? Please?contact us. W2O is eager to build a comprehensive and fulsome catalog of ocean resources for the classroom.?

SPOTLIGHT:?VISUALIZATION THEATER

Modern data visualizations on the world ocean, waterways, water supplies, climate, and weather provide a fun and engaging alternative to the more traditional graphing of information used in the past. The?Visualization Theater offers links to innovative and fascinating ways to look at, actively engage in, and interpret data and ocean events. Visualizations have the potential to transform the ways we engage with and learn about scientific data related to the world ocean.

We owe a special debt of gratitude to John Smith of Whitelancer Web Development for his time, talent and dedication to the overhaul of worldoceanobservatory.org. He has been a tireless advocate and supporter of W2O for many years, and worked closely with our team for the last few months to incorporate our vision and ideas into deliverable features.

WORLD OCEAN EXPLORER

In 2022, with the support of?Schmidt Ocean Institute, we focused resources and energies to enhance the World Ocean Explorer user experience. Explorer's first exhibit,?DEEP SEA, saw some updates late in the year: an updated welcome screen with a new user-interface menu; two new videos for users; and a preview of THE HUB: the central, organizing space and portal to all other aspects of WOE (coming in February.)

We invite you to?take a brief tour?of THE HUB, which will serve as the entrance to the aquarium, and will have its own displays to introduce visitors to the full catalog of exhibits and resources contained within. Our ambition with World Ocean Explorer is to make ocean information accessible through inclusive interaction as wide, deep, and dynamic as the ocean itself.
