World Mitochondrial Disease Week

World Mitochondrial Disease Week

Our core commitment at GloNeuro remains to advance neuroscience knowledge for all to support better brain and mental health in everyone. By actively raising awareness and sharing cutting-edge research about topics people need to understand to prioritize their brain health, we at GloNeuro educate the individual with knowledge necessary for personal brain health. This is our goal for the campaigns we introduce and the educational initiatives we provide to our communities through engagement. Let's unlock the power of neuroscience together and bring health, a better-informed society. #GloNeuro #BrainHealth #MentalWellness #NeuroscienceForAll #BrainAwareness

Disorders, typically inherited in character, occur due to mitochondrial dysfunctions. Mitochondria are the organelles within cells which produce energy, and their dysfunction is responsible for impairments in the brain. The problem lies in the fact that the brain utterly relies on the supply of energy. When energy will not appear in adequate amounts, neural cells begin to degenerate, and this results in cognitive defects, developmental delays, seizures, and neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease. Such a dysfunction also leads to oxidative stress and disruption of signaling pathways within the cells, which increases further neuronal damage. Elucidating the relationship between mitochondrial health and brain function can pave the way for developing therapy for neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental disorders that are associated with diseases of the mitochondria.
