World Mental Health Day- making a difference through collaboration

WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY is October 10, 2019

October is commemorated around the world as World Mental Health Day, and this year the  theme is suicide prevention. The World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH) states that "World Mental Health Day celebrates awareness for the global community in an empathetic way, with a unifying voice, helping those feel hopeful by empowering them to take action and to create lasting change". World Mental Health Day was first celebrated on October 10, 1992 and is an initiative of the WFMH that is also recognized by the United Nations, WHO, country Leaders and numerous international organizations.

A recent report from WFMH stated that the WHO statistics reported "more than 800,000 people die by suicide a year, making it the principal cause of death among people fifteen to twenty-nine years old. It is often believed that it is only adults who exhibit suicidal behaviors, but it should be stressed that many children and young people also engage in this kind of behavior as a result of violence, sexual abuse, bullying and cyberbullying".

Suicide is a global public health problem that requires collaboration across different industries and sectors. The Evolutionary Business Council (EBC) is a community of positive change thought leaders and emerging thought-leaders with a global vision to create a conscious sustainable world. Collaboration is a foundation of this organization, and EBC members have come together from around the globe to make a difference and honour World Mental Health Day.  EBC member Sarah Ross, founder of “Your Reason to Breathe” used her own experiences with Burnout and Depression in the corporate world to develop the “Burnout Freedom Formula ?”. She helps corporate executives and entrepreneurs Reset, Recharge and Thrive after burnout by discovering ways to lead an empowered and fulfilling life. She stated "Burnout took me to the brink of suicide, a dying orphan brought me back. We all have a Reason to Breathe!"

Dr. Rhoberta Shaler, EBC member whose podcast "Save Your Sanity" is featured on Mental Health News Radio Network states "I empower the partners, exes, and adult children of the relentlessly difficult, toxic people I call Hijackals? to recognize emotional abuse, realize the effects, heal, and transform. I help them see clearly, stop the crazy-making, and save their sanity, working worldwide through video conferencing."

Joel Young, EBC member and Creator of The NPA Process: A simple way to stop taking things personally reminds us that the "tendency to take things personally is like unwittingly building the proverbial house of your mental wellbeing in the sand. That's why I'm passionate about helping people practise the art of NOT taking things personally so, to continue the metaphor, they can build their mental wellbeing on the rock."

Yvonne Heath- nurse turned author, speaker and changemaker teaches people of all ages how to "Just Show Up for themselves and others, so they are empowered and resilient when grief, life's challenges or crisis arrive. Whatever someone is facing, this is the very best we can do." She shares more in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QykXtzBI_U4&feature=youtu.be

"These unprecedented times offer us a great opportunity. As we find ways to be present to the calm and peace that exists within each of us, we open our hearts to resilience and compassion. Compassion grounded in inner peace will transform our world" says Sharon Carne.  Sharon is an author, speaker, trainer, publisher, musician and recording artist, and founder of Sound Wellness, the Sound Wellness Institute and the Emergent Workforce Program. These programs share practical, effective tools to help people create psychological health reducing the enormous impact of stress on personal health and the workplace.

On World Mental Health Day take time to nurture your mental health and build resilience, extend kindness to those who may be dealing with challenges, take time to thank the organizations that support our communities, and, remember that "together, we make a difference!"

Such an important topic that gets too little attention in the world.? In olden times, communities used to band together and take care of those in need of extra help with sensitivity and support.? There was a time in the U.S. when there were facilities for those in need, perhaps they were not the best they could have been, but at least they provided food and shelter.? Today most of these facilities are gone.? As a result many people are left to live on the streets alone.? I have started a non-profit named Abe's House Corporation with the intention of building housing for those on the streets. Every effort to help makes a difference.
