World Mental Health Day

Today is World Mental Health Day and rather than talking of statistics of suicides, or the stigmas we still battle within this pressure ridden society, I choose to focus on my mental health. I choose to share what has healed me, what brings pure joy to my heart each day and as I lay my head to rest each night.
It’s this. Yes, being outdoors, in nature, surrounded by nothing but the wilds. A place where there is only the sounds of the wind and the birds, your gentle footsteps or the stroke of your paddle dipping in and out of the cool water. It’s finishing my day with sore muscles from using every bit of my body to accomplish goals. Pushing myself, physically and mentally, leaving no opportunity for negative thoughts. It’s simply looking at the world with wonder, curiosity and with a smile.
Within all of this though, it’s to share. The selfishness within sharing what has offered healing for me, what cures me each day, and the knowing that my words, stories and images are in some way helping another. That is what brings me the most happiness and healing.
“Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions.†#dalailama ?
