Mental health is an integral component of our overall well-being, and it is undeniably a universal human right. International Mental Health Day, celebrated on October 10th each year, serves as a global platform to raise awareness about mental health issues and advocate for better mental health care and support systems.
World Mental Health Day observed every year on 10 October in Pakistan to raise the awareness about the mental health issues. Individuals, national & international organizations including UN agencies organize different activities to observe this day. ? It is crucial to shed light on the significant mental health issues that persist in Pakistan. Mental health is a fundamental aspect of overall well-being, yet it remains a subject shrouded in stigma and misunderstanding. In Pakistan, millions of individuals silently struggle with mental health challenges, and it's time to address this pressing issue with empathy, awareness, and action. According to World Health Organization (WHO) , mental health is a critical concern in our country, affecting millions of lives. In Pakistan, mental disorders account for more than 4% of the total disease burden, with the mental health burden higher among women. It is estimated that 24 million people in Pakistan are in need of psychiatric assistance. However, allocated resources for the screening and treatment of mental health disorders are not enough to meet the increasing needs.
These statistics are not just numbers; they represent the silent battles many individuals and families are facing daily. ?? Stigma and lack of awareness often deter individuals from seeking the help they need. It is time we break these barriers!
On this Global Mental Health Day, let us pledge to:
? Raise awareness: Educate ourselves and our communities about mental health, reducing the stigma that surrounds it.

? Encourage open conversations: By talking openly about mental health, we can help reduce the fear and shame that often accompany it.
? Support each other: Reach out to friends, family, and colleagues, offering a listening ear and a helping hand to those in need.
? Advocate for change: Advocate for improved mental health services and policies in our country to ensure everyone has access to the care they deserve.
Let's join hands to create a more compassionate and supportive society, where mental health is a priority for all. Together, we can make a difference!
