World Lion Day

Yesterday, the 10th of August is designated as World Lion Day, centred around the conservation and preservation of Africa’s lions.

Dereck Joubert is a world-renowned wildlife filmmaker. With over 30 years of research & filming experience, Dereck is on a mission to protect Africa’s big cats. Alongside his wife Beverly, they founded the Big Cat Initiative, which funds 43 grants in 18 countries. Their 2011 documentary ‘The Last Lions’ was filmed on location in Botswana, which champions the preservation of lions in the wild. Both Dereck and Peak Teams share a mutual respect for this landscape, with our ‘Explore the Okavango’ simulation sharing this space.

Dereck has been instrumental in the conservation efforts to save Africa’s wildlife. As CEO of Great Plains Conservation, Dereck returns vast swathes of land back to nature in preservation of the rich biodiversity that Africa beholds. Using conservation tourism and community uplift programs, Dereck has shown that business and nature can harmoniously exist.
