World Heart Day - Statement from Michael Bloomberg

WHO Global Ambassador for Noncommunicable Diseases Mike Bloomberg Statement on World Heart Day

SEP. 29, 2016

Cardiovascular diseases are the number one cause of death worldwide -- and unfortunately, the numbers are rising, and they are rising fastest in low and middle-income countries. We know how to prevent and manage the major risk factors for heart attacks and strokes: It starts with reducing smoking rates and salt consumption, and by providing basic health care for hypertension and other risk factors. Those measures lie at the center of a new joint effort by the WHO and CDC, the Global Hearts Initiative. By working with leaders around the world, we can turn the tide on heart disease -- and save millions of lives.
