World Giving Day

World Giving Day

I am a Trustee for a charity called Kenya Children Centres.? I became a Trustee because I was impressed by the results it achieves and their guarantee that 100% of each donation is spent on care of the children. The charity has been supporting disadvantaged children in Kenya for over 20 years.? It started with three abandoned orphan girls in a rented room in a Thika slum, 30 km from Nairobi.? From that tiny initiative its activities have expanded in scope and size so that today it cares for around 2,000 of the poorest and most vulnerable children in?various ways.?

Giving Tuesday is a worldwide event?that encourages people to do good. This year it takes place on 3rd December.? I am writing now because each year on Giving Tuesday, we ask our friends and supporters to help us?to feed over a thousand of the most vulnerable children each day in the slums of Kenya.

It costs just 17p to provide a nutritious hot meal of maize, beans and vegetables at one of our feeding centres. A donation of £5 will feed a child for a month.? We point out that the cost of one Costa coffee will feed a starving child every day for a month. A sponsor has committed to match every donation made before World Giving day this year (Tuesday 3rd December).? So a monthly donation of £5 will be worth £10 and feed two children. We are raising funds so that we can keep providing?300,000 meals each year from 8 feeding centres in the most deprived areas of Kenya, where work is irregular, and the typical wage is just $2 per day. On days when work is not available, none of the family gets a meal. Our regular daily meal can be the difference between life and death. Our feeding centres are located next to schools, so the children are motivated by the promise of a daily meal to come to the school.? Starving children do not have the energy to walk long distances to school.? If they do make it, they can't concentrate and learn effectively in class. They suffer physical and mental health problems, often have stunted growth, and can't develop socially. We collect data on the children every term and it shows that a hot daily meal rapidly tackles these problems.? It improves their health, raises their academic performance, reduces school absenteeism, and improves their behaviour and well-being. It gives them the chance of a decent self-sufficient life as adults. It would be wonderful if you could help us to transform the future for these desperately vulnerable children by giving each month or making a one-off donation.?Just click on this link:??https://cafdonate.cafonline.org/27182

It would also be great if you could share our website page on your Facebook, Instagram, linkedIn etc, if you use social media.??The webpage describes our feeding centres and has some pictures:??https://kenyachildrencentres.com/giving-tuesday-2024/.??The children survive on donations and so the more people that know about us, the more children we can rescue.

Thanks for reading through this email. I hope you will feel able to help us.

with best wishes
