The World of Freelancing
Life had a completely different direction pre-pandemic, monotonous division of hours between work and sleep. People generally had five days of hustle and two days in the name of the weekend. Those weekends were generally spent contemplating life choices and socializing.
COVID-19 has risen to challenge the world as we know it. The entire lifestyles and habits have shifted 360 degrees. The world is still spinning around with the effects of the havoc. Many people have lost their jobs and businesses to it. The forced shift of the physical work environment to alternate scaffolds has increased.
Online work platforms are a gift borne of tragedy. Although the mediums for working online have been around for many years, their value and use have become ten folds during recent times. Many communication software like Zoom and Teams by Microsoft, have diminished the difference between an employee and a freelancer.
Growing at a multiplied rate, freelancing has broken the stereotypical barriers. With fewer jobs available in the market. People have created jobs for themselves. It is a very important step to stabilize the economy rather than waiting for the market to return to normal. Armed with a laptop, internet connection, and skills in hand one is ready to deal the cards.
With more and more people gaining awareness the platform will grow at a steady rate of 10% each year. New freelancers joining often tend to doubt themselves, causing them to undersell their skills. If one doesn't believe to be paid according to the quality and work they offer, the client will be more than happy to take advantage of those doubts. Build confidence and offer the same. Have faith in yourself before placing in anyone else.
The word freelancing means that you are on your own with no guaranteed salaries, the luxury of sick days, or vacations as Kitty Hannah Eden said: "Time is the only tangible currency there is." People trade their time and skill for money. Therefore you cannot sit around second-guessing your skills and abilities. There is no luck in the game only effort and hard work with quality pay off.
Therefore it is beneficial to do the math. After you have decided on the skills, you will be offering and curating a specialized profile. Calculate the amount of spending required for the month. Put down the hours you can work for and decide on an average rate. This homework will benefit you in the long run. Try adding on any profiting opportunity at hand. As you build your skills and gain experience, you can increase the charge.
The independent nature and solitary of freelancing can cause burnout resulting in decreased motivation and lack of ambition. Thus, don't forget to have time for your emotional and physical well-being. Spend time with friends and family. If needed, take therapy. Burnout is real and can happen to anyone. Don't let your health deteriorate. Remember it is you who is the investment in the trade!
