Today is all about spreading awareness of and recognising the vital work that workplace and facilities management companies and the wider industry contribute to business worldwide. A crucial part of the business ethos here at Westbury FM is our team's continuous development, training, and nurturing of the younger generations in the industry through our extensive apprenticeship schemes. There is often a shortage of tradespeople up and down the country. It's reassuring that the sector continues to focus on attracting and retaining top talent and skilled trades. As companies invest more in training and development programs, they create clear career pathways for tradespeople. Apprenticeships and partnerships with educational institutions are vital to address the skill gaps in the industry. Moreover, with a growing emphasis on work-life balance and employee well-being, companies that offer flexible working arrangements and mental health support will stand out as employers of choice.
Career progression, continuous up-skilling, employee well-being, and leveraging technology are all key areas to focus on. By investing in these areas, we can attract and retain skilled talent and build a workforce ready for the future.
The challenge of retaining skilled talent in facilities maintenance will only intensify. It's time to shift our focus from recruiting to retaining. By prioritising the needs of our employees and investing in their growth, we can ensure that our workforce is prepared for the challenges ahead.
