Workplace Accidents and First Aid?

Accidents and injuries can happen at unexpected times during work. When such incidents happen, First Aid is often needed to give immediate medical assistance until full medical treatment is available. When we hear the word ‘First Aid’, CPR or the Heimlich maneuver may be the first things that come into the mind of many people. However, there are many types of First Aid. First aid is not just about saving lives. Treating bee stings, nosebleeds, cuts, burns, and sprains are also all types of first aid treatments that are commonly utilized. When first aid is given to an injured or hurt person, it can help with the following:?

1. Increase the full recovery chance and prevent any permanent damages?

1. Prevent injuries from getting worse?

1. Reduce the length of hospital stays required, hence saving costs?

1. Provide relief from physical and emotional pain to the patient?

For these reasons, it is highly encouraged and necessary for workplaces to have First Aid kits and trained First Aid responders on site – especially for an environment like the manufacturing industry which more often than not involves heat, non-stationery, and heavy types of machinery. Another importance of having trained first aid responders on sites is that those who have learned and trained for first aid are more aware of potential hazards, and it also helps reduce the susceptibility to accidents in the workplace.??

World First Aid Day?2023

On the second Saturday of September every year, World First Aid Day is recognized to raise awareness about how first aid training can help prevent injuries and save lives all over the world (1).? More than 100 Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies organize events to celebrate this day worldwide. The aim of these events is to increase awareness of first aid methods and the lives that can be saved by knowing first aid techniques. These events are also organized to encourage the general public to get first aid training lessons and become certified in first aid. For those who do not have prior first aid knowledge, World First Aid Day would be a great day to commit to learning first aid courses and become certified. For businesses, World First Aid Day is a perfect day to conduct First Aid training to the employees or test the first aid knowledge of employees in a fun quiz event or a town hall event.
