The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN-Women) recently issued a report highlighting progress in women's empowerment despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The report acknowledges the achievements of UN Women since its inception, as well as the challenges and opportunities it has faced in the current changing development context.

In other news, a delegation led by the National Assembly Speaker of Ivory Coast, Adama Bictogo, visited the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) to promote bilateral trade and investment between Pakistan and Ivory Coast. Bictogo emphasized his country's focus on promoting industries, particularly agriculture.

On Turkiye/Syria earthquake, the United Nations (UN) Humanitarian Agency warned of a dire situation in northwest Syria and Turkey, with thousands of children likely killed and millions vulnerable and in need of support.

On a more positive note, Australia announced it would double its support for the Pakistan flood response, providing an additional $5 million in immediate humanitarian assistance, bringing its total support to $10 million.

Meanwhile, Arab leaders gathered for the Palestine Conference 2023, with the theme of "Resilience and Development," to discuss and resolve the long-standing Palestinian issue. This conference was part of official and popular Arab efforts to find a just and comprehensive solution to the conflict.

In a separate development, Chinese scientists utilized high-resolution satellite imagery to aid relief efforts following the Turkiye-Syria earthquake, which resulted in significant loss of life and infrastructure.

Finally, the Pakistan International Maritime Exhibition and Conference (PIMEC) began this week, with 133 exhibitors, including 21 international firms and 112 local firms and international organizations, participating in the event.

On the other side of the globe, the European Union (EU) took substantial action to pressure Russia by announcing the 10th package of sanctions, citing the country's war that has caused death and destruction over the past year.
