A NOTE FROM FASHION TAKES ACTION'S EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR:
The countdown is on!?We are so excited to be bringing our WEAR conference back to an in-person format next week, on October 6 & 7, in Toronto.?Planning and producing events in this new post pandemic era is not without its challenges and there have been massive learning curves. This will be our first official hybrid event, as we live stream from the WEAR mainstage as well as host some of our speakers virtually. A lot of effort has gone into making this a seamless and high value event for those who choose to join us in person, or tune in from the comfort of their home or office. Kudos to my (small) team for all their hard work!
We once again have an incredible agenda with an impressive line up of speakers on topics that cover the entire spectrum of sustainability, circularity and ethics in the fashion industry.?And as per usual, we are not shying away from the difficult conversations. A few of our sessions are definitely going to be polarizing,?and that's okay! What matters is that we are addressing the issues head on and looking for solutions; asking how we can collaborate despite the differences.?
Sustainability is an ever-evolving space, which means that we will never stop learning, growing, collaborating, and ultimately challenging ourselves to change this broken system.?Even if you consider yourself or your brand to be a leader in sustainability and think maybe this conference isn't for you, think again! There is always something to learn, new ways to approach challenges, and inspiring ideas that can lead to real change.
I created WEAR, or the World Ethical Apparel Roundtable, in 2014 out of my desire to engage more Canadian apparel brands and retailers in sustainability. I was frustrated that there was so little (if any) Canadian representation at global conferences, so I decided to bring global leaders to Toronto instead -- making it much more accessible and affordable to the industry in Canada to learn, grow and take action.?
WEAR 2022: Impact with Intention?has been carefully designed to cater to?everyone?as we are all in this together! So whether you are just starting out on this journey, or if you are leading the way, there is something in our agenda for you. WEAR is a great opportunity to engage several departments and teams, not just those who are tasked with sustainability! Design, sourcing, operations, innovation, marketing - there will be many opportunities to learn and grow no matter what department you work in!
