World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2023 – CEO Summary Article

CEOs are the most pessimistic they’ve been in more than a decade – yet, there are three KAIZEN? leadership principles to grow your business despite current challenges

This year’s World Economic Forum in Davos has been marked by discussions of global economic concerns among CEOs, according to a survey by 普华永道 . The survey found that 73% of CEOs believe that global growth will decline in the next year, and almost 40% of respondents believing that their business will not be economically viable within a decade on current trajectories. The #globaleconomy was the biggest concern for CEOs, especially with the international #climate plummeting in the last year.

The World Economic Forum's annual meeting was filled with discussions of plenty of risks, including drops in customer demands and rising debt distress in the developing world. The hardest part for developed nations is yet to come – getting inflation down to 2%.

According to several CEO statements, 2023 will continue to be a year of uncertainty and risk. The global economy is a major concern. #climatechange continues to be a pressing issue, while efforts on CEO green pledges and climate financing appears sluggish.

As the world faces many trials and tribulations, CEOs need to be very broad-spectrum leaders. Connections to companies’ culture and values are a key motivator for their workforces more than ever. Leaders will need to not only listen to their employees, but also be more responsive to the needs of their wider communities. Mental wellbeing is a top priority, and leaders must focus on leaning into the value of care and supporting their people, who in-turn support their guests.

These issues can be sustainably addressed by holistically engaging in #kaizen methodologies. While current global challenges have impacted businesses, they should not affect growth if organizations adopt the right strategy. In working with Juha Heljakka , CEO of Brand ID , Finland, we recently came up with the following three leadership principles to help your business thrive in an environment like we’re living in now:

  1. Make strategy your daily business.
  2. Focus on impact and keep deviations visible every day.
  3. Build a countermeasure culture.
