In anticipation of the celebration of Earth Day on April 22, 2022, our Head of the management system of the ?uro ?akovi? Group, Ms. Ljiljana Toth has prepared a guide for the green office.
- The importance of daylight?- using daylight saves energy and employees who work near windows are 15 percent more productive
- Railways can offer a strong alternative in both passenger and freight sectors. Freight transport in particular is much more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly than road transport or air freight
- When purchasing new equipment, it would be good to buy equipment with hibernate or stand-by mode and set the same options on existing equipment
- Do not leave computers, printers, scanners, etc. on (even in stand- by mode) overnight and on weekends
- Use network, cloud, ect. instead of sending files by e- mail - some interesting facts: sending just eight emails a day contributes to environmental pollution like one kilometer of driving a conventionally powered car. It is stated that e-mail of one megabyte "emits" about 19 grams of CO2, taking into account the energy consumption of computers and servers involved in data exchange. Thus, a company with 100 employees who send an average of 33 e-mails a day in just one year produces about 13.6 tons of CO2. These figures are growing unimaginably if we take into account the fact that as many as 190 billion e-mails are sent every day around the world
- Before sending the e-mail, clearly write everything just to avoid unnecessary re-sending of messages
- Avoid sending copies of the same e-mail to multiple addresses, and if it is a message that can be resolved by telephone, pick up the handset rather than send an e-mail
- Use network and share multifunction devices that can print paper on both sides
- Try to replace old mobile phones with new ones with certain benefits (more environmentally friendly than recycling)
- Unplug the charger if there is no need for mobile phone to charge
- It is recommended to use recycled paper - but it contaminates copiers more and shortens the life of parts, so this recommendation is questionable; instead, summarize the content we want to print on paper (smaller font; smaller margins)
- Use black and white logos for internal communication; avoid using paint wherever possible - purple, red and blue are harder to recycle
- Try to buy lighter paper (uses less energy, water and wood in production)
- When leaving the room, turn off the light (no matter how short the departure may be)
- When replacing a toilet flusher, install a flusher with a double drain
- When possible use a bicycle or walk or use public transport instead of using a car
- Agree with colleagues on joint transport to work; on business trips and similar
- Arrange with colleagues the purchase of food from the same restaurant and the same delivery to save on fuel consumption and, consequently, CO2 emissions from its combustion
- Reduce waste generation (buy large packages) and sort the generated waste to keep municipal waste to a minimum; and paper, plastic and metal waste can be recycled for reuse
