WORLD CUP 2018: GROUP PLAY RECAP

Okay, so I think we have slightly recovered from a severe case of VAR and are now fighting off the FIFA Fair Play tie breaker cold. Why not use the result against your group winner as the decider? Or, the result against the highest FIFA ranked team from your group?? Moving on. 

One giant finally fell, and fell all the way to the basement of group F. For a second there I thought Neuer was making his run at the Golden Boot, just behind OG. Uruguay, Croatia, Belgium, and Belgium B, all perfect. Speaking of perfect, does that make Muslera the best GK in the world? He has been steady as a rock. Japan and Mexico got their tactics just right in game 3, lose, get some help and advance. Messi showed us the best goal of group play, Maradona has us seeing double. Iran, Morocco, and Peru gained new fans from all over the world. Iran and Morocco were coached incredibly well and the Peruvian fans showed us what it truly means to be patriotic. Tough exits for South Korea, Nigeria, Serbia, and Senegal. Tough showing for CONCACAF too. The Viking Clap will never be forgotten so we will see you in 2022. We can’t really go to a 48 team field can we? Netherlands, Italy, Chile, Ghana, and the United States brings us to 37, then who? Additional teams would certainly have to come from UEFA. 

This has been an amazing WC thus far filled with parody and last minute heroics. Let’s keep it that way. On to the round of 16. Any predictions? We have yet to see the best out of France, sticking with them.
