The World Comes to Celebrate DP World Prince Rupert Expansion
This week I had the pleasure to document the Fairview Terminal Phase 2 North the official opening celebrations in sunny Prince Rupert. Here is a little photo essay of the two day event.
The celebration kicked off with a wonderful evening event of food and reconnecting at the beautiful National Historic Site of North Pacific Cannery.
People traveled from all of the world to participate in the celebrations.
It was a great opportunity to reconnect with people in the supply chain industry. And enjoy a fantastic location in sunny Port Edward.
All the partners have a lot to smile about. Fairview Container Terminal is now the second largest such facility in Canada after the Port of Vancouver.
Also celebrating this week was the Ray-Mont Logistics. They celebrated their official grand opening later in the day on Tuesday.
There were terminal tours starting first thing Tuesday morning.
National and international guests took in the terminal from the view point. A great way to check out the three new "big ship ready" Malacca- max cranes and gantry cranes.
Also in attendance was long time shipping industry leader Dave Bedwell who is officially retiring on September 1. This celebration was a great way to complete his industry tour of duty!
DP World's Chris Colussi explaining the capacity of the newly expanded terminal.
Crowds of spectators took in the speakers and the event celebrations!
Don Krusel, President and CEO of the Port of Prince Rupert, spoke of building on strengths. As the port grows maintaining the velocity and fluidity is top priority.
The Honourable Fran?ois-Philippe Champagne, Minister of International Trade explained how the Port of Prince Rupert plays a major role in strengthening British Columbia's economy and provides opportunties for Canadian entrepreneurs.
Glen Edwards, President of ILWU Local 505 explained that our collective success is a great story about what can be achieved when partners work together towards a common goal.
Luc Jobin, President and Chief Executive Officer of CN, spoke of looking forward to continuing their successful partnership with the Port of Prince Rupert for all their import and export customers.
The official ribbon cutting! The ribbon was over 100 ft long!
There was First Nations dancing, live music, bouncy castles, and a BBQ at the community event.
A dock side community party to celebrate this historic event.
The terminal now boasts a second vessel berth serviced by three new "big ship ready" Malacca-max cranes, and that allows 20,000+ TEU vessels to access the terminal through one of the deepest port harbours in the world. That's in addition to 6,000 more feet of on-dock rail, and an 11-hectare increase to the terminal footprint.
