History of World Coconut Day?

Every year, the 2nd of September is celebrated as the World Coconut Day to recognize the aromatic, and flavorful nutrition brought by coconut to many other products. Biologically, Coconut can be considered as a seed, a nut, and a fruit (1). It is widely assumed that coconuts are probably native to Indonesia and humans have found sustenance in them for at least 2,000 years. While they would have traveled throughout the Indian subcontinent and even to Africa during their early years, coconuts didn’t reach to Europe until around some time in the 16th century (2). It is possible that coconuts were first introduced to Europe through the Maritime Silk Road and Marco Polo may have been one of the many travelers who brought coconuts back with them to Europe (2).??

Background of Asia Pacific Coconut Community (APCC)?

Founded in 1969, the Asia Pacific Coconut Community (APCC) was created with the intention to support and promote the tropical countries that are high in cultivating, selling, and exporting coconuts. Based in Jakarta, Indonesia, APCC stays connected with the production and export process of coconuts and its members are responsible for the growth of more than 90% of coconuts exported and sold worldwide (2). The group shares scientific expertise and coordinates activities within the coconut industry.?

In 2009, APCC announced September 2 of every year as World Coconut Day with the aim of promoting the activities of coconut growers while raising more awareness about coconuts for the ones outside of the growing community.?

World Coconut Day?2023

Every year, World Coconut is celebrated on the 2nd of September by farmers, experts, and other stakeholders in the coconut cultivating and producing businesses. Activities and events are often held to recognize the unique flavor and aromatic nutrition coconuts bring to many other products- especially in the food and beverage industry. The celebration of this day is to offer more opportunities for coconut producers in the APAC region to be able to enter into the forefront of the conversation from people all over the globe.?
