WORLD CLEAN UP DAY.
World Clean Up day is an annual event celebrated on the 17th of September each year. As the name suggests, it is a day for combating solid waste that has not been disposed of correctly.?
This year, 3Es Experience joined other environmental organizations such as Wildlife Direct, Kenya Forest Service, the Kenya Inter-University Environmental Students Association and the environmental clubs of various universities such as African Nazarene University, The Multimedia University, Cooperative University, Kenyatta University and Jomo Kenyatta University College of Agriculture and Technology.
We all took part in cleaning the Oloolua Forest Block which had been used as a dumping site for plastic and other non biodegradable waste. Through our collective effort, we were able to clean at least a 5km stretch and covered more parts inside the forest.
Clean Up activities ensure that we live in a cleaner environment and in addition, it goes beyond by ensuring that our livestock and wildlife do not consume plastic waste which is dangerous and can easily cause death.?
Having the county government of Kajiado as part of our Clean Up group assured us that our government is active in creating a more sanitary environment for us. However, we should all remember that it is our individual responsibility to ensure that we dispose of our waste properly!
Key takeaways from the closing meeting after the clean up session were:
