World Class skiing comes to Bakuriani
Last weekend saw the return of top athletes to the mountains of Bakuriani, as winter sports fans gathered for the Freeski and Snowboard Slopestyle World Cup test events. Each round saw incredible technique and fantastic ability from the international competitors.
This represents a milestone event for Georgian skiing. Despite difficult weather conditions, the Government and various partners have worked tirelessly to build and invest in outstanding winter sports infrastructure and get all the ski lifts and equipment in place for these test events. Without their hard work and commitment, hosting world-leading snow sport events like this simply wouldn’t be possible.
As a proud sponsor of the Ski Federation, Silknet is looking forward to seeing a new generation of Georgians grow more involved with skiing and snowboarding. The development of winter sports brings us closer to Europe and, as it is a highly popular European sport, builds upon the bonds between Georgia and the continent.
Following the event, there was also an organising committee meeting to ensure everything is in place and ready to be worked on for next year’s Championships. This includes the provision of vital equipment and artificial lakes and will ensure the event is the crowning achievement of the Georgian winter sports sector to date.
As Georgia gears up to host the FIS Freestyle, Snowboard and Freeski World Championships in 2023, these events highlight the region’s role in the wider tourism industry. The numbers of visitors who have visited our country, particularly from Europe, has increased year on year, which is crucial for our economic growth. Furthermore, after a difficult two years, it is great to see the world return to experience all that Georgia has to offer, with winter sports playing a key part in that.
