WORLD CLASS BLOG, 10 Steps to Being Irreplaceable
When it comes to positioning yourself as one who is irreplaceable in any situation one of the main traits is that you must be consistent in your reactions and congruent with your core values. Oh yeah ~ and don’t be a jerk.
World Class performers know that being irreplaceable means;
- You keep your word and live up to the high expectations that you set for yourself and others.
- Don’t waste time playing the blame game, spend the time understanding the problem and fixing it.
- If you are the one responsible for something going off-side, take responsibility, apologize sincerely and then move to a resolution, without hesitation or delay.
- Be compassionate towards others; treat everyone with respect and dignity.
- Think critically, look at every situation with objective reality, understand what is happening and leave emotion out of the equation.
- Share your wins with those around you; give those who have been instrumental in the success a chance to stand in the limelight and to receive the accolades. Applause never paid the bills, but the commitment of those around you will always pay dividends beyond your expectation. When valuable members of the team feel that they are integral to the work being done and given credit for their involvement they give unconditionally.
- Be an open-system and listen to others. The World Class performers are open and receptive to new ideas, thoughts, and potential problems. Having a reputation for being unapproachable or dismissive is not an effective strategy ~ ever.
- Lean into the situation and lead. Lead by example or by delegating enough authority to get the job done right.
- Stop micro-managing but stay abreast and informed.
- Learn from costly mistakes. Not just yours but from the trials and tribulations of those who have gone before. Seek out failures and analyze the lessons embedded within them.
