Cancer remains a growing public health challenge in Africa, with limited access to timely diagnosis and treatment exacerbating the crisis. However, digital health innovations are reshaping cancer care, offering new hope to millions. Organizations like IntelliSOFT have been at the forefront, leveraging technology to improve cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. We'll take a look at some ways our work in digital health is transforming cancer care across Africa.
Improved Cancer Data Collection and Surveillance
Accurate and timely cancer data is essential for tracking disease patterns, guiding policy decisions, and improving patient outcomes. The National Cancer Registry – Kenya (NaCaRe-KE) is a digital platform developed to enhance cancer data collection, storage, and analysis.
Traditionally, cancer surveillance in Kenya relied on paper-based reporting, which was prone to delays, inconsistencies, and data loss. The National Cancer Registry of Kenya (NaCaRe-KE) digital application has revolutionized this process by enabling real-time data entry from healthcare facilities across the country. It allows hospitals, oncology clinics, and cancer registrars to input patient data, including demographics, diagnosis details, cancer staging, and treatment outcomes.
Digitization of National Cancer Guidelines
Ensuring standardized cancer care requires clear, accessible, and up-to-date clinical guidelines. Traditionally, these guidelines were in paper format or static PDFs, making updates, distribution, and reference cumbersome. IntelliSOFT led the work of digitizing Kenya’s national cancer guidelines, transforming them into an interactive, web-based platform. This system allows oncologists and healthcare providers to instantly access, search, and update critical protocols for establishing cancer centers, diagnosing, and managing treatment plans.
Making these guidelines digitally available ensures healthcare facilities can maintain consistency in cancer care, adopt the latest best practices faster, and improve training for medical professionals. Automated updates also ensure that new research and policy changes are immediately reflected, while decision-support tools within the platform help doctors make evidence-based treatment decisions.

Enhanced Facility Inspections for Cancer Centers
The delivery of safe and effective treatment hinges on ensuring cancer centers meeting regulatory standards. However, manual facility inspections are often time-consuming, inconsistent, and prone to errors. To address this, IntelliSOFT developed a Digital Facility Inspection Tool, which automates the evaluation process for cancer treatment facilities. This system allows inspectors to digitally assess infrastructure, equipment, staffing, and compliance with national and international healthcare standards.
With this tool, health regulators can conduct faster and more accurate inspections, generate real-time reports, and track facility improvements over time. The system also ensures transparency by digital records storing that can be referenced for follow-ups and accreditation.
Oncology Electronic Medical Records (EMR) for Better Patient Management
The management of cancer treatment requires a seamless flow of patient information across multiple healthcare providers. Traditional paper records and fragmented systems often lead to lost data, duplicate tests, and inconsistent treatment plans. To address these challenges, IntelliSOFT developed an Oncology Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system, a digital platform that securely stores, retrieves, and analyzes patient data.
This EMR system allows oncologists to track a patient’s entire cancer journey—from diagnosis and staging to treatment progress and follow-ups. It integrates critical details such as lab results, imaging reports, medication history, and clinician notes, ensuring that all relevant information is available in one place. Improving data accuracy and accessibility enhances treatment coordination, reduces errors, and supports evidence-based decision-making. Additionally, the Oncology EMR enables healthcare facilities to analyze patient outcomes, identify treatment gaps, and improve long-term cancer care planning, therefore ensuring continuity, efficiency, and better patient outcomes across healthcare systems.
Digital health is transforming cancer care in Africa, providing innovative solutions to overcome the challenges of limited resources, geographic barriers, and inconsistent care. Through these and other initatives, healthcare systems are becoming more efficient, accessible, and patient-centered. These digital tools enable better data collection, standardized treatment, real-time consultations, and more streamlined patient management, ultimately improving outcomes for cancer patients across the continent.
As technology continues to evolve, Intellisoft remains committed to enhancing cancer care and creating sustainable digital health solutions to ensure that all patients have access to the care they need, no matter where they live.
