THE DATA
There are many organizations that have data and datasets that can number in the millions and even billions! I have found when working with this amount of data I need to use the correct tool to mange, handle and aggregate it. In this project, I focus on using?SQL?(Structured Query Language).
The data comes from The World Bank. A banking group made up of the The International Development Association (IDA) that focuses on loaning, granting and crediting money to developing nations.
You can find the data here →?The World Bank?dataset
When looking at the data, I wanted to narrow my search and focus on one country. I choose Nicaragua and from there focused on these main business questions -
1.????Show us the top 5 transactions from the Nicaragua (the country)?
2.????How many transactions were performed by Nicaragua?
3.????What is the average amount Nicaragua pays back to the bank?
4.????What is the max owed to the IDA?
Insights
I obtained these insights using SQL:
1.?????The projects that borrowed the most in Nicaragua
- COVID-19 Response ??($116,000,000)
- ECON.REC.CR. ??($110,000,000)
- Hurricanes Eta and lota ERP??($80,000,000)
- NI-Hurricanes Eta and lota ERP ??($80,000,000)
- NI FINAN. SEC.ADJUSTMENT??($70,000,000)
2.???? Nicaragua has 13,813 transactions with the World Bank
3.?????The average repayment of the projects in Nicaragua are $10,632,340.76
4.?????The maximum amount owed to the IDA is $793,256,127.64
Analysis
When working with a dataset, it is important to look through all the columns, it gives data analysts a better understanding of the information in the table. In this case, I started querying information on projects The World Bank has funded in the country of Nicaragua. I write comments above each query so that anyone can go into my work without having prior knowledge and can follow along easily (I did not include in every image).
First, we wanted to find out the following:
Which projects in Nicaragua borrowed the most from IDA?
领英推è
Nicaragua’s top 5 projects:
1.?????Nicaragua COVID-19 Response ($116,000,000)
2.?????ECON.REC.CR. ($110,000,000)
3.?????Hurricanes Eta and lota ERP ($80,000,000)
4.?????NI-Hurricanes Eta and lota ERP ($80,000,000)
5.?????NI FINAN. SEC.ADJUSTMENT ($70,000,000)
The next business question was How many transactions were performed by Nicaragua?
First, I simply searched for the countries and found Nicaragua in the dataset showing that they had 13,813 cases.
My third business question I wanted to know What is the average amount Nicaragua pays back to the bank?
The query I ran showed me that the average repayment of the projects in Nicaragua are $10,632,340.76
?
My final business question, I wanted to find what is the max amount owed to the IDA?
?I ran the query below to obtain the data that showed $793,256,127.64 as the max amount owed to the IDA.
Final Insight
Nicaragua’s top project that borrowed the most from IDA was for COVID relief during the Pandemic at $116,000,000.?The country itself has had over 13,000 transactions with the bank and pay back over $10 million dollars to the IDA on average.?Lastly, we can show that the IDA’s max balance owed by a country is $793,256,127.64.
