World Art Day: History

World Art Day started on April 15, 2012, at a meeting in Mexico. It was organized by the International Association of Art (IAA). They wanted to honor Leonardo da Vinci's birthday because he represents freedom of expression and peace.

Artists from all over the world took part in this event with support from the IAA’s national groups. In ancient Greece, they had six main types of art: Architecture, Painting, Sculpting, Music, Literature, and Dance. But in 1911, they added Cinema as the seventh art, thanks to Ricciotto Canudo.
