World AIDS Day
World AIDS Day, designated on December 1st every year since 1988, is an international day dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection and mourning those who have died of the disease.
Here are three candlelit vigils held in the UK to mark this precious day
1. Pride in Surrey - Join Pride in Surrey from 7 pm on December 1st to mark World AIDS Day 2022 with a candlelit vigil. The vigil will take place in Jubilee Square, Woking. Jubilee Square can be found at the entrance of Peacocks Shopping Centre, opposite the Town Gates and Library. The closest parking is Peacocks Shopping Centre or Victoria Way car parks. Candles will be provided. Gazebos will be installed if the weather is poor.
2. The Brighton and Hove - The Brighton and Hove World AIDS Day Candlelight Vigil will start at 6 pm on December 1st in New Steine Gardens, in Kemp Town. Everybody is welcome to join in and commemorate those we have lost.
3. Northwest HIV Support CIC – The Northwest HIV Support CIC is holding its first annual World Aids Day vigil on December 1st at St Andrew’s Church in Runcorn (27 Linkway, Runcorn WA7 5EJ). The event will start at 7 pm, however, if anyone would like to join the walk from the Grangeway Community Centre (WA7 5HA) with candles across to the church, they will be meeting at 6.30 pm at Grangeway Community Centre, weather permitting. There will be tea, coffee, mulled wine, mince pies, and cakes after the vigil. Harts n voices choir will also be performing.
