On Works at Ilford Station: Capel C.S to Deliver Another Contract for MTR Elizabeth line

Capel C.S Ltd?are pleased to announce the initiation of their works at Ilford Station with MTR Elizabeth line on behalf of Transport for London (TfL) providing a new step-free entry walkway on theNorthern side of the station. The project commenced in February 2022 and will be the sixth Elizabeth line station the construction contractors have worked on ahead of the full line opening.

Providing Step-free Access

The construction contractors will work with the MTR Project team and specialist sub-contractors to develop the design. Capel’s in-house trades will complete the general site clearance which includes the embankment, removal of the temporary huts, groundworks and civil engineering, whilst Capel’s specialist contractors will remove the existing traction bond and fabricate a new step-free walkway between the York Road Entrance and Platform 4, complete with balustrades.

Capel C.S have been working closely with MTR Elizabeth line to improve both the internal and external passenger experience at various stations, working on refurbishment and gating works whilst preserving step-free access.

The works by Capel C.S include the development of the design from its current form and 001 status, through to Form 2 and Form 3.

FFollowing the site clearance, the north level access will see new surface water drainage, for which the construction contractors will lead the excavation and foundations. The new walkway will be finished with GRP anti-slip surfacing, compliant handrails, and additional CCTV will cover the new walkway area. It will also feature new bulkhead lighting will be installed with final connections to the existing platform lighting circuit.

New access steps between platform 4 and track level will also be constructed, with a new fencing detail between the access steps and level access gantry walkway to secure the area.
