Workplace wellbeing. Help your team shine their brightest.
Workplace wellbeing is a necessity and not a perk. It’s no secret that when we’re struggling to cope personally we often struggle to reach our potential professionally. In fact research suggests as many as 84% of us feel more productive at work when our wellness is secure1.? Having been on my own mental health journey from a young age, I have always advocated for the support and guidance necessary to enable me to be my best self. Now I am able to be an advocate for others, by turning my focus to transforming workplace wellness for everybody.
According to Mind , 1 in 4 adults will experience a mental health problem each year2. It can happen to anyone, and it almost certainly has affected people you know. When the average full-time employee spends almost 20% of their time each year at work3, it’s easy to see how maintaining a supportive and healthy environment is absolutely vital to ensure all our colleagues can feel and be their best.?
There can sometimes be stigma around mental health at work. However, mental wellbeing is just as important as physical wellbeing - and when something’s not quite right it can be just as impactful. That’s why it’s so important that we continue to raise awareness and educate our teams on workplace wellness. Dispelling harmful myths and stereotypes empowers our colleagues to find help when they need it. It’s also a vital part of fostering a culture of inclusivity, where colleagues can feel comfortable reaching out.
I would encourage managers to regularly signpost their team to employee health and wellbeing resources. It can be overwhelming trying to find the right support when we aren’t feeling our finest. Being clear ahead of time on what’s available and where to find it gets us one step closer to receiving the help we need to get back on track.
Joining a company like E.ON Next, that puts my well being first, has enabled me to really bring my A-game to my role and beyond. During my time here, I‘ve continued to highlight the importance of workplace wellbeing by sharing my experiences and raising awareness of the support available. I’m humbled to have been nominated and shortlisted for the Breaking the Silence Award at the 2024 Great British Workplace Wellbeing Awards . It’s an honour to be recognised by my peers for speaking out about a topic I care so deeply about. It can be lonely putting yourself out there to challenge the status quo. Being seen and heard really makes a difference.
People aren’t machines. We have complex feelings, health, and needs. It’s important that businesses see the whole person when managing their employees. Providing an environment where every colleague is able to thrive - mind, body, and soul. We all have greatness inside, so let’s take steps to support each other in unlocking our full potential.
