As of March 2025, businesses will be mandated to separate dry mixed recyclables and food waste from general waste, to be collected separately by an approved contractor. This initiative is a key step in the UK’s pursuit of improved recycling rates and meeting net zero commitments.
To clarify, businesses will be required to segregate waste into categories such as paper, plastic, glass, metal, food, and general waste, potentially leading to the use of seven different waste containers. Non-compliance could result in penalties.
Similar legislation has been operational in Scotland since 2014 and was introduced in Wales recently, bringing the UK closer to unified waste management practices.
Workplaces can decide on the size of containers and frequency of collections based on the volume of waste they produce. You do not need to provide bins for your customers, however, if you provide bins, you will need to separate dry recyclable waste, food waste and black bin waste – but we are here to help you!??
At CJS, we can work with you to provide you with compliant bins and sacks that will ensure you are complying with this new regulation.?
