Workplace Diversity

Heyy, I hope you are well and looking forward to the new month. Oh my goodness, I can't believe February is only two blocks away and January is almost OVER! A friend called to congratulate me on my last article....."Have you considered writing about DIVERSITY," he said. I remained silent for a while before answering that some subjects are too sensitive for me to discuss. Although it can be a contentious subject, diversity in the workplace is essential. And the need to discuss it nevertheless arose.

Having a diverse workforce in terms of gender, religion, race, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, education, and other factors is how I describe a diverse workplace. It entails valuing each worker as a unique individual and fostering an environment where everyone is supported in their endeavors and allowed to be themselves. It promotes a feeling of community, recognizes the unique talents of each employee, and offers employees from underrepresented groups a safe space to voice their concerns in a supportive environment. Moreover, it is about creating a friendly workplace where all employees have the same rights and opportunities in order to be POSITIONED for success.

It is important for employers to encourage diversity, fairness, and inclusion if they want their workplaces to THRIVE. They must be receptive to feedback, empathic with others, and eager to learn more about sensitive topics that affect various identity groups. Many people have biases, whether they are conscious of them or not, and whether we are willing to accept them or not. One of the things we can be suffering unintentionally is "privilege" and "discrimination". As a result, it is crucial for organizations to invest in implementing diversity-friendly policies, training, and work cultures to ensure that employees are well taken care of.
