Workplace: Challenge in Communication with solutions and results
Nowadays, it is no secret that working on a global market is increasingly becoming a reality. The business environment is expanded by including multiple geographic locations and spanning countless cultures. But what can be difficult is to understand how to communicate effectively with people who speak another language or who depend on different means to achieve a common goal.
The internet and modern technology have opened up new markets and allow us to promote our business in different geographical areas and cultures. And since it can now be as easy to work with people remotely as face-to-face, intercultural communication is increasingly the new way of doing it. Given the different cultural contexts, this brings new communication challenges to the workplace. Understanding cultural diversity is perhaps the most important for people to realize that it is the key to effective intercultural communication, without necessarily studying in detail individual cultures and languages, we must all learn to communicate better with individuals / groups whose first language Or language of choice does not match ours.
Undoubtedly, Communication is the key factor through Meetings, Audio / Video / Call Conferences have been and are a constant throughout the process of implementing the most varied projects. Communication? Yes. An effective communication strategy is very important and especially when it is done in a foreign language in a multi-cultural environment.
From my own experience, it is important to know and get to know some general guidelines to follow. There are exceptions so I suggest you use these guidelines as a criteria, but always listen to your local counsellor whenever you are in a new country:
- Tolerance is essential, however it is necessary to maintain acceptable behaviour patterns. Nevertheless, when this is not the case, set an example and make it clear that you expect to be followed by a constructive, open-minded, accepting and tolerant path
- The whole team must contribute and not hamper the mission of the same or hinder delivery to their client
- The team should be cohesive, efficient, efficient and productive
- he whole team should not unnecessarily prejudice the interests of other team members
- Other factors (such as national legislation, timings, deadlines, etc.) are obviously important
- Be aware of working time differences to keep everyone involved aware of these differences
- By working with people with a different culture, empathy, courtesy, curiosity, and goodwill can also go a long way in ensuring successful communication. If your starting point in troubleshooting is to assume that the communication has failed, then you may see that many of the problems are resolved quickly. It is preferable to assume the error immediately than to persist with it.
Keep it simple!
