Gallup's State of the Global Workplace 2023 Report revealed some eye-opening statistics about workplace emotions and engagement around the world:

  • Globally, 44% of workers are tackling significant daily stress, with North America and East Asia experiencing the most pressure at 52%.
  • Meanwhile, stress levels are comparatively lower in post-Soviet Eurasia (24%) and Southeast Asia (26%).
  • Only 23% of employees worldwide are truly engaged in their work, signalling a vast area for growth.
  • Employee engagement is highest in South Asia (33%), compared to the lowest in Europe (13%).
  • The US outperforms the global average in employee engagement, clocking in at 34%.
  • Countries like El Salvador (37%) and India (33%) highlight a shift in work culture, with higher engagement levels in Latin America and South Asia.
  • On the flip side, Italy (5%) and France (7%) show significantly lower engagement, painting a diverse global picture of work dynamics.
