Work/Life Balance

My husband Tim Williams and I are both entrepreneurs. We work to create a work/life balance where we can provide our family with opportunities and experiences.?

Neither my husband nor I worked in our businesses this past week. Instead, we took our children to learn about American history in the South as we visited historic locations throughout Alabama & Georgia, including:

  • The Birmingham Civil Right Museum where we were exposed to overwhelming realities, realizations, and emotions — reminding us why it’s so important that we never forget our history
  • The Church that was bombed in 1963, killing 4 Black girls, including one the same age as my daughter
  • The birthplace of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., two Churches where Dr. King was the pastor, the historical national park, and his burial location
  • Several college campuses, including HBCUs (historically black colleges & universities)
  • Downtown Montgomery where Rosa Parks boarded the bus and was arrested three blocks over, leading to the bus boycott?
  • The Rosa Parks Museum and the Cleveland Avenue Time Machine, that took us back in time to experience life in the South from slavery, to the Civil War, to segregation, and the present day?
  • The Civil Rights Walk of Fame, where we had the opportunity to literally walk alongside some of the most extraordinary men & women who’ve made a path for us to walk in today

???????? ???????????? ?????????? ?????? ???? ???????????????? ?????? ??????!

We were gone over a week, and I didn’t feel the need to check instant messages or respond to emails. It was empowering to take a break, be unplugged, and have the time to connect with my family around new experiences and shared knowledge.?

????????/???????? ?????????????? ???? ??????????????????.

I love the work that I do. I love my family. I am so grateful to have the balance that allows me to have both, and I am actively working to maintain this balance.?

If you’re struggling with work/life balance, my advice is:

?? Do work that utilizes your talents and brings you joy

?? Do non-work-related activities and plan experiences that bring you joy

?? Do place boundaries around your time to ensure you show up as your best self when you’re at work and when you’re not at work?

?? Do believe that work/life balance is achievable, and it starts with you?

What a great article! I love that you are encouraging others to - Do work that utilizes your talents and brings you joy! Joy is an essential part of being human and if we can all have more of this, we will all be the better for it. My son also completed the book at school - "The Watsons Go to Birmingham?" so maybe that would be a good trip for us to go on too!! To really gain perspective.
