Working To Zero - Workplace Injuries
Think about it, in today’s world fueled by technological advancements and innovations, workplace deaths and injuries are still the same and even increasing! When we talk about technological innovations making people's lives easier and processes more efficient, how come something as valuable as human lives are slipping away? Imagine hundreds of families losing their loved ones in workplace accidents with no one to be held accountable.
How can something as major as the shocking fatality rate in a workplace be overlooked and swept under the rug so easily? It is important for people to understand the magnitude of this situation. Speaking of which, according to the International Labour Organization , there are over 340 million occupational accidents and 160 million victims of work-related illnesses annually. See what we’re talking about? Statistically speaking, about 14% of all workplace fatalities were caused by contact with objects and equipment, and around 12% were caused by exposure to harmful substances or environments. In contrast, fires and explosions caused 2% of all workplace fatalities. These statistics speak volumes and emphasize how strange and alarming this situation is.
This only raises (and I know you’re thinking about it, too) one question. What are we doing about it? It’s high time something actually important and worthwhile is done about this problem, and that’s where the National Safety Council #WorktoZero initiative comes in. Work to zero is your holy grail, your knight in shining armour, your one true saviour to save the day. This one-of-a-kind, safety-centred, remarkably designed initiative will revolutionize the workplace environment associated with an increased fatality rate in the workplace. Now I know what you’re thinking; How will they pull it off? Well, according to the National Safety Council (NSC), workplace fatalities will be eliminated by the year 2050, and how will they do it? Through the power of technology, of course.
