Working On Yourself
Weeks ago, in my healing circle, we discussed how negative self-talk, self-neglect, and abuse could get in the way of how you value yourself and ultimately alter your healing process.
There is a lot of confusion about self-love, and for that reason, many embrace timidity and think that putting themselves first is an egotistical cause. The truth could not be further from this.
It is not selfish to give priority to yourself; it is essential. You are far from selfish and indulgent from putting yourself first because taking care of your own needs is fundamental for you as an individual.
Oxygen mask
You must give yourself room to breathe by taking care of yourself without feeling selfish. You can't support someone else if you’re drained. That’s why, when you’re on a plane, the airline staff asks you to put on your own oxygen mask before helping others.
Remember this, putting yourself first brings out the best of you. Ever wonder why there are mean and prejudicial people? More often than not, it's because they don't love themselves and take out the way they feel about themselves on others.
The more you value yourself, the more you will want to celebrate the good things in others. You should have fun and do the things you love. Life is not only about being there for others; it is supposed to be fun and joyful too.
Steps to take
- Identify you are enough: self-awareness is key to decreasing negative self-talk and reaffirming your value.
- Reevaluate your habits: habitual outdated habits can decrease your ability to manifest true change. Make sure your habits align with your vision of your future self.
- Identify what gives you life: sometimes we lose our sense of self due to living a life of things you “Have to do” rather than a life we “Want to do” living a life of “Have to” is a very low vibration to sustain. It brings on mental distress in the form of depression, procreation, irritability, and fatigue. Finding things that make you feel good increases your energy and your vibration. Make sure you wake up every day to smile.
The truth
The truth behind all this is that loving yourself makes you a happier, kinder, more positive person. Believe me, if you have all these characteristics, others around you will notice. Knowing that you have goodness within you, you will find goodness in others. This will facilitate your interpersonal relationships.
