Working towards sustainable travel: Celebrating HomeToGo’s sustainability partners ??
At HomeToGo, we’re committed to continuously driving change that positively impacts the lives of our travelers, partners, and employees, as well as the wellbeing of our planet. ??
This Earth Day 2024, we’re celebrating the steps we took towards sustainability in the past year: We officially joined the United Nations Global Compact to further underline our commitment to sustainable corporate practices. We also received an industry-leading “Low Risk” ESG Rating of 16 points from Morningstar Sustainalytics, placing us well ahead of other online travel companies such as Expedia Group, Inc. (27.6), Trip.com Group Ltd (23.5), Airbnb (22.8), and Booking Holdings, Inc. (19.2).*
Plus, smaller-scale (but equally important) climate action practices are ingrained into everyday life at HomeToGo: The majority of our facilities (60%) currently operate on 100% green electricity, we have a dedicated in-house Green Team to push our climate action forward, we follow a train > plane policy for all business travel, and more!?
We fully understand that there is still work to be done, especially towards a sustainable travel ecosystem. Even with our current actions for the climate, we are always looking for ways to be greener, smarter, and more sustainable in everything we do. ??
That’s why we are honored to partner with some of the most respected and innovative leaders in the climate action industry! This Earth Day, we’re excited to spotlight our partners in sustainability: SQUAKE, Plan A, and Leaders for Climate Action. These partners empower HomeToGo to operate a greener business, enable travelers around the world to make more sustainable choices, and are respected leaders transforming how companies can take climate action.
SQUAKE is the end-to-end ClimateTech solution for sustainable travel. ?? ?? A fellow Berlin-based start-up, SQUAKE helps companies achieve their carbon targets by creating tailor-made solutions based on the environmental challenges of each specific partner.?
At HomeToGo, we partner with SQUAKE to help our travelers make more environmentally responsible travel decisions via a product solution that empowers our guests to compensate for the carbon emissions associated with their vacation rental stays. ???
Integrated into HomeToGo’s post-booking journey, SQUAKE’s solution calculates an individual vacation rental booking’s carbon emissions in real time and offers travelers the option to compensate for these emissions. To achieve compensation accuracy, SQUAKE has built a unique calculation algorithm specifically for the vacation rental industry that is based on a number of travel-specific input factors such as destination, vacation rental size, number of people traveling, and more.?
The compensation collected directly contributes to the development of 14Trees, a unique environmental project that builds 3D printed affordable housing in Malawi. 14Trees creates sustainable housing through an innovative technology that produces construction bricks from material sourced on site (soil, sand, cement, and water) avoiding the destruction of 14 trees per house built. ??
Plus, we are happy to announce that we are currently testing our SQUAKE product across all HomeToGo markets ?? Follow HomeToGo on LinkedIn for more details on this update soon!?

Plan A is developing technology that enables companies to reduce their carbon footprints. It has an ambitious vision of measuring and reducing 1 gigatonne of CO2e on an annual basis. According to energyeducation.ca, that’s roughly the mass of 200 million elephants or 5.5 million blue whales! ?? ??
HomeToGo partners with Plan A to elevate our environmental commitment by assessing our operational carbon footprint and establishing reduction targets and decarbonization strategies, whilst preparing for effective ESG reporting. Together with Plan A and other sustainability leaders, our goal is to focus on tangible steps to reduce our own impact on the planet, helping to protect the communities and destinations that fuel tourism and ultimately preserving the environment and the travel industry itself in the long term.
