Working towards a cleaner, healthier, and more productive world

Dear Followers,??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Welcome to our LinkedIn newsletter! As a leader in particle and materials analysis, Malvern Panalytical empowers researchers and industry professionals with state-of-the-art instruments and software that deliver precise, reliable data. Our cutting-edge solutions drive progress across a wide range of fields, from developing innovative materials and advancing healthcare to enhancing sustainability and addressing some of the world’s most pressing challenges.

We’re excited to share insights, expertise, and the impact we’re helping to create as partners in discovery, working with you to make the world cleaner, healthier, and more productive.

?In this first edition, we will discuss our two recent exciting acquisitions and explore some of our latest projects involving microplastic monitoring and toxic metal measurement.

Moving towards a microplastic free future

Over 14 million tonnes of microplastics have accumulated on ocean floors. This amount is increasing every year, causing harm to ecosystems, animals and people. With growing public concern, and many questions about the sources and fates of microplastic particles still unanswered, we need to improve our understanding of the impact of microplastics on the environment.

MP’s experts are helping to shape policies that promote a healthier environment for us all, including championing the recycling of polymers for a sustainable future.?

For example:

  • Improving polymer recycling: MP is working with its partners to develop demonstration facilities to screen whole-bale plastic waste before it is processed. This way, unwanted and detrimental compounds can be prevented from entering the chemical recycling plant, helping to save both time and money.
  • Enabling toxicology research: MP is participating in a project to detail the particle size and composition of micro and nano plastics (MNPs) to create material ‘passports.’ This allows researchers to compare results using standardized materials and enables global regulators to set limits for MNPs in water.

Taco V. , Global Petrochemical and Polymer Segment Manager, commented, “Malvern Panalytical is at the forefront of polymer recycling advances. We work with our customers to enable materials designed for the next cycle of innovation. Our involvement in MOMENTUM, a major Dutch project with links to the EU, focuses on defining testing materials for microplastic toxicity, driving impactful toxicology research."

Malvern Panalytical completes acquisition of SciAps Inc.

We are excited to share that, on behalf of Malvern Panalytical, Spectris plc has successfully completed the acquisition of SciAps Inc. , a Boston-based organization that specializes in handheld X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) and Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) analytical instruments.

SciAps join the Spectris Group with a wealth of experience in handheld XRF and LIBS technology. Their ability to develop innovative handheld technologies has helped them to grow a strong presence in the market, making them a fantastic addition to Malvern Panalytical. The integration of their team into Malvern Panalytical will strengthen our existing elemental analysis portfolio, expanding the value we can deliver to our customers.

Malvern Panalytical completes acquisition of Micromeritics Instrument Corporation

On behalf of Malvern Panalytical, Spectris plc has successfully completed the acquisition of Micromeritics Instrument Corporation , a world leader in analytical instrumentation for the physical characterization of particles, powders, and porous materials based in Georgia, US.

As part of the acquisition, we are also delighted to confirm that Terry Kelly, President and Chief Executive of Micromeritics, has joined as President of Malvern Panalytical.

We are looking forward to welcoming Terry and the rest of the Micromeritics team to Malvern Panalytical, and working together to help build a cleaner, healthier, and more productive world as partners in discovery.

Customer spotlight ????

Purdue University

We are partners in discovery. We collaborate with our customers and with each other to discover new possibilities and achieve breakthroughs. Read about our latest customer case study with Purdue University below….

While some trace elements, such as iron and zinc, help keep us fit and healthy, others, such as heavy metals, can have devastating consequences. Yet potentially dangerous levels of these elements are found all around us, from lead in old paint and water pipes to the by-products of industrial processes.

Malvern Panalytical’s Epsilon 4 XRF systems are being used in a study by Assistant Professor Aaron James Specht from Purdue University College of Health and Human Sciences to provide a simple, portable, and cost-effective solution for heavy metals detection. The devices use energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) to analyze dried blood spot samples without damaging them in any way. The study has implications for expanded testing worldwide, particularly in low- and middle-income countries lacking heavy metals surveillance ??
