Not Working "For" Someone but for Everyone

About 15 years ago, I posted on my blog that I know longer worked for Grant Adult Education, but instead was working for humankind... Many of my friends thought I had quit my job, but really I was posting about changing my mindset. I meant at the time, that instead of focusing on trying to do the short-term decisions of politics, etc that were involved at my work, that I would focus on the big picture of helping the world. This paid off, as not only did I help more people, I did better in my job, and I was able to have many opportunities that I would not have had, if I had only kept my head down and focused on the job I had at the time.
I am feeling that way once more. Many folks wished me a happy work anniversary in April, and I shared with them that I was applying for a position as a Linked Learning Coordinator (Not to be confused with LinkedIn Learning). This role was to help bridge academic education and career technical education, through a process that is called Linked Learning in California. (This concept has other names, like applied academics and integrated academics) I had done so much work in this type of area, that I was very confident that I could get the job. And I had an interview, which I thought was really good, but I was not asked to come back for a second interview.
This was disappointing to say the least. But it helped me to remember that I am not my job. My true job is to do what I can, while I'm on this planet in a conscious form, to improve the world. And while my day job is part of that, it is only part. And I need to keep building the systems that I've been working on, including the idea about how to make an online university that could offer quality education at a far lower price point than any current U.S. universities. And also, a new school system for the public, that rethinks everything about what "education" means, and what we should learn. These are what I need to accomplish before I die. I will do what I need to for my day job to do what is asked, and I hope it will help the students, but if I can accomplish either, or both of the bigger projects that I'm working on, then it will really be something that benefits the world.
