Working out and Repetition
My wife and I have been going to the gym for the past few months. She does her workout class and I listen to my headphones and step on the elliptical machine. About 8 minutes in (after the first difficult part of my session) I always get the thought in my head "God this is hard. You should just quit." About at that time, I'll turn on one of the many podcasts I listen to regarding insurance (super dorky I know), and do my best not to look at the slow, slow, slow, counter on my machine.
Around the time my first podcast is concluded, I'll look at the timer on the machine and it'll only say 10 minutes! Wow! I've done 20 minutes and I'm still going. I can finish this! I can do it! This isn't so bad. Then I turn on my second podcast and by the time that one is done, lo and behold, I'm all done.
My legs are shaking as I get off the machine. I'm sweating a lot (sorry fellow gym members) but I ultimately feel good. I feel like I accomplished something and am eager to do it again. So after that I move to the free weights' section and do a few exercises while my wife finishes up her class.
Point of the story is, even though it's hard, and at the beginning sucked, I felt really good after the experience. And even though I go multiple times, it still sucks in the beginning but it does get easier because I know at the end of the workout how it will make me feel.
Anyone else have this experience? Let me know. I'm eager to hear about it.
