Working out at Christmas
As the holidays are coming closer, the stress increases with all the things needed to be done and organised, the people to be met, the events to attend and it gets easy to forget our own needs. So here is motivation to combine christmas shopping and workout, but also the reminder that with every exercise you are doing something good for yourself – and for the people around you. Despite media wanting to tell you something different, a healthy you is the greatest gift you can give to your loved ones around you.
Here are some ideas how to find balance between exercise and christmas preparation:
- Park your car a little further away from the entrance of the shop and take this chance for a short walk. It might be take a bit more of your time, but in return it gives you a little me-time and exercise. Allow yourself to clear your mind and focus on breathing or the nature.
- If weather conditions and distance allow, take the bike to run errands. Again, it might take longer than by car, but it is a good excuse for getting out of the stress and calming down. (Additionally, it might prevent you from buying unnecessary stuff)
- If you are attending another christmas dinner with friends, do not forget to treat yourself with a glass of water. Pure water is essential for your body to function well.
- Go for a walk with your kids to find materials for DIY christmas decorations. Besides exercising it is a great opportunity for bonding and creating memories.
- Christmas is full of sweets and lots of sugar. Plan ahead to find balance between healthy and fresh food and your favorite treats. If you know, you will be invited to cake and cookies later that day, eat a salad for lunch and fruit before you leave. It will decrease your craving for sugar.
Besides all the things that needs to be done ahead of Christmas, do not forget to schedule time for yourself, whether you choose to exercise or let your body rest in a mindful way.
