Working On Our Terms
I’ve been growing Bendaygo with my business partner for around a half a year now and it’s been the funnest endeavor of my life. I’m working more than I ever have before but all of it’s enjoyable. Even the tedious portions of starting a business are fun. Mainly we’re enjoying the process and we can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
I’ve been living in Edmonton (yes Canada) for the last 8 months with my girlfriend and trying it out. I knew this business was a big key to that working and having mobility to come home to see my family when I wanted. That includes having the ability to fly during the week and take off when flights are cheapest.
So I came to Massachusetts on Friday afternoon. I was sketching out some marketing ideas and the time away from my computer was great. But what I loved the most was the versatility that having your own business provides. I can fly out and I don’t have to convince the boss that I’m actually going to get my work done. Because I am the boss (as well as my partner). I’m writing this from my parents deck by the pool. It’s now 4pm, I’ve been working since 8am and I plan on going until 10pm. But not being in an office and building this thing is incredible.
We’re starting to slowly but surely add a squad of great recruiters who want this for themselves as well. Each conversation that I have reminds me that we’re also empowering people to live their dream of working remote. And working on their own terms. The idea of having this team of 5-10 people who make a killing and have the lifestyle of their choice is more attractive than making big money. We’re still coming up on what to call our team. Bendaygans? We’ll probably keep away from naming the team.
Yeah, I guess this blog doesn’t have too much meat in it. No mind blowing facts or realizations besides me saying this is awesome. Being patient and seeing growth but also empowering others. Doesn’t get too much better.
