Working My Pearls Day 26: Hidden Gems
While I think we can all agree I might be biased, pearl strand necklaces are beautiful just as they are. Whether the pearls are natural or cultured, born of fresh or salt water, perfectly round or perfectly baroque, pearls capture the attention of the observer and the spirit of the wearer. But pearl strand necklaces often hold a beautiful surprise – the clasp. For those unfamiliar, the clasp is what connects one end of the pearl strand to the other. The clasp typically sits on the back of the wearer’s neck, infrequently seen unless the strand has been wiggling around a good bit.
Many pearl clasps are made of white or yellow gold and often decorated with small pearls or other precious gems. The metalwork is typically very intricate and fine, though designed to be tough enough to secure and protect the pearls it holds together. People are a lot like that, too. The self-awareness and self-actualization each of us works hard to create and maintain is not often on display, though it may be the very most beautiful part of us. What is on display is the character and leadership that are held together by this clasp. And if the clasp is strong, the pearls are secure. So wear your pearls.
