Working Moms Club

Working Moms Club

A couple of my connections here on LinkedIn and some friends appreciated the idea of creating a support group for Working Moms. They were intrigued to know what lead me towards creating such a group? So here is the answer in my latest write-up.

I am in the field of counseling & guidance since nearly a decade now; I have been interacting with youngsters, college and university students and graduates. During my individual counseling sessions, I come across a considerable number of females that are either soon-to-be-married, newly-weds and/or young moms who are trying to balance different duties of home and kids, relationships and work accordingly. I have seen many of them leaving behind their career aspirations and dedicating themselves fully to household duties. Though, it is completely a personal choice whether to continue the career or not, I think that some sort of contribution to the economic development of the country and for self-satisfaction through #work, a personal gig should be there.

In today’s world, the dual-career couples are increasing day by day. This means that both partners need to manage home and kids equally by dividing the duties and accepting the routines of each other.

Mothers however have an inevitable role bestowed by nature that can never be replaced by any other. From bearing kids to rearing kids, moms have an added duty of nurturing alongside professional careers. In some traditional and conservative Asian cultures, cooking and cleaning is considered to be the woman’s unpaid duty. However, I am seeing a gradual change in men’s’ perspective towards it. Men are more engaged in household help and caring for kids now.

Although every mom is a working one but working-mom for me here is the one who is destined to make her identity outside home as well. Either working from home, a freelancer, a full-time job holder, a business woman or an entrepreneur, we all need someone out there to understand and share our hearts out.

I have experienced that mostly in life we need a support system to get along with our worries. Although friends and family are there but having a group of people with similar concerns, experiences and challenges helps us to cope better with the challenges at hand. After all, all of us require a me-time to channelize our energies and get back on track.

I welcome #workingmoms across the globe to join my club here and be an inspiration for many others.
