Working for the Home Office in Customer Services Group

Hi, my name is Simon and I work for UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI).

We’re recruiting for 900 permanent roles in our Customer Services Group, which brings together Asylum & Protection, His Majesty’s Passport Office and UK Visas & Immigration.

I’ve worked in the Home Office for over 15 years. After leaving college I worked in fast food, spent a few months working with children in camps around America and then settled on a job in retail. After 4 years with no opportunities for promotion, I grew tired of the retail sector. I wanted a career with more prospects, so I applied for a job with the Home Office.

With this role, I really enjoy solving problems, helping others and sharing information with colleagues.

My usual day involves organising compliance visits with customers and conducting interviews with them. I also write reports and discuss cases with my colleagues. Talking to different customers is interesting and at times educational!

At the Home Office, you can work towards personal goals, develop your career and learn new skills. They’re not the only benefits – I can work flexible hours to suit me, and we’ve got a decent pension too.

There are excellent opportunities working at the Home Office, whether you’re a career changer like me or you’re just starting out. If you want to work with the public, you can make a real difference here.

You can learn more about the roles available, including the salaries, responsibilities and how to apply by visiting the campaign page on the Home Office Careers website. The closing date for applications is 25 October.

For more information about the types of different roles that the Home Office recruits for, check out the Home Office Careers website.
