The "Working Genius" Model

As leaders, it's important to find ways to enhance our teams' performance. The "Working Genius" model by Patrick Lencioni has been a valuable discovery for myself and my teams. It offers a practical tool and a new language to better understand team dynamics.

Patrick Lencioni 's "Working Genius" model, introduces a novel approach to enhancing team dynamics and job satisfaction.

The model outlines six "Working Geniuses":

  1. Wonder
  2. Invention
  3. Discernment
  4. Galvanizing
  5. Enablement
  6. Tenacity.

These are grouped into three project phases:

  1. Ideation (Wonder, Invention)
  2. Activation (Discernment, Galvanizing)
  3. Implementation (Enablement, Tenacity)

Individuals are encouraged to identify their dominant geniuses, which energize them, and recognize tasks that are frustrating or merely competent. This self-awareness helps align roles with strengths, boosting morale and productivity.

By identifying six distinct "Working Geniuses" and categorizing them into stages of Ideation, Activation, and Implementation, the model encourages individuals to understand and embrace their unique strengths and limitations. Ultimately, the "Working Genius" model is a powerful tool for fostering effective collaboration and achieving superior team results.
